BARNSTABLE – From Barnstable Fire: The Barnstable Fire Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $1,386,845.10 Fiscal Year 2025 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The three-year grant will provide partial federal funding for the salary and benefits associated with the addition of six career firefighter positions to the Barnstable Fire Department.
Democrats on the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Europe panel will release a report on Tuesday laying the groundwork for oversight of the Trump administration’s Balkans policy should their party win a majority.
The report by Rep. Bill Keating of Massachusetts, shared first with Semafor, includes a previously unreported letter raising concerns over how the administration encouraged officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina to award a key pipeline contract to a company owned by former Trump adviser Mike Flynn’s brother, Joseph Flynn.
Less than 10 years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the mastermind behind the tragedy, Osama bin Laden, was killed by the U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six.
While there was plenty of military accolades with various medals and honors, the unit has yet to receive any high ranking recognition outside of the Presidential Unit Citation — a military award given to an entire unit for extraordinary heroism fighting an enemy. No Presidential Medal of Freedom, no Medals of Honor, according to public record, for any individuals in the Bin Laden Raid.
But a new bill in the U.S. House of Representatives is looking to change that.
A bipartisan bill introduced Sept. 10 by Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Kean of New Jersey aims to award the Congressional Gold Medal to SEAL Team Six. Fellow Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Lawler of New York and Democratic U.S. Reps. Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania and William Keating of Massachusetts are co-sponsors on the bill.

U.S. Rep William Keating turned back a primary challenge from New Bedford activist and first-time candidate Craig Swallow on Sept. 1, winning the Democratic nomination in Massachusetts’ 9th Congressional District and advancing to the November general election.
The race was called by 9:50 p.m., with Keating’s campaign earning nearly 80% of the vote in the district to bypass Swallow for a chance at winning an eighth full term in Congress.
On Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, Keating gained a total of 37,939 votes and Swallow 8,765, according to preliminary results from town clerks.
Colleagues said that after losing his father at a young age, Matthews looked to Keating as a father figure.
“I looked up to him,” Keating confided. “I valued his wisdom and judgement. He liked the old music from the era I came from, and he liked the water, like I do. We had things in common that we shared, including making this country better. It wasn’t a one-way street. As time went on, I was looking for advice from him.”

But regardless of occupation, Massachusetts residents are suffering because of the project delays, said U.S. Rep. Bill Keating, D-9th Massachusetts, whose district includes New Bedford, Cape Cod and the Islands.

But the GOP majority is showering Trump and his hateful goons with endless blank checks. Federal authorities stymie investigations into the shootings, whisking away the triggermen and refusing to name them, compromising potential crime scenes, making spurious claims that a dead driver tried to kill them, and refusing to hand over evidence for months, if at all. A heated House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing erupted as Congressman Bill Keating challenged a State Department official over the Trump administration’s decision to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. Keating questioned whether Stephen Miller influenced the policy, pointed to Marco Rubio’s past support for TPS, and argued Haiti remains too dangerous for deportations amid widespread gang violence and kidnappings.
